Krohmer trained in Japan, took a job at a sushi restaurant there after meeting its owners, and later spent about four and a half years working as a sous chef and on the sushi bar under Masaharu Morimoto before he opened his own room in Las Vegas. In February 2021 the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that he was returning to Other Mama after a stretch in Utah, following the collapse of a near-complete sale of the restaurant to Zappos founder Tony Hsieh. On his return he restructured the ownership: half the restaurant's net profit goes to the staff, general manager Alan Holmes keeps his original quarter stake, and everyone from the dishwashers up shares in a quarterly dividend. His stated reason was blunt. Employees make the restaurant, and the more he made it about himself, the worse he felt.
