The Black Sheep | Jamie Tran, Southwest Las Vegas
Jamie Tran's French-Vietnamese American dining room on West Warm Springs Road since 2017: bao sliders, salmon skin tacos, short rib over kimchi fried rice.
Jamie Tran opened The Black Sheep in 2017 in a strip mall on West Warm Springs Road, in a part of Las Vegas where people live rather than visit. She named it after her own role among eight siblings, then said nothing about it for a year. One of her older brothers found out only when she took him there to grab ice during a baby shower and he assumed she worked there. She began cooking at four with her mother, and by 2022 the Review-Journal was describing the restaurant as one of the engines behind chef-driven, off-Strip dining in the city. Tran deflects the credit. Her own summary of the attention, delivered to a colleague who complimented her, was to tell them to shut up.
