Elmina | Adams Morgan DC | Michelin Newly Recommended
Chef Enoh Ukpong's West African restaurant in Adams Morgan. Ghanaian, Senegalese, Nigerian cooking. Scratch jollof, egusi, suya. Michelin Newly Recommended 202…
Adjepong grew up watching his mother and grandmother cook Ghanaian food in a Bronx apartment, flavors that seemed to belong to another world even as they sat at the kitchen table. He became a chef by training but an advocate by calling, building a public career on television while quietly working toward the restaurant he always wanted. Elmina opened in early 2025 on 14th Street near D.C.'s U Street corridor, just as his debut cookbook, Ghana to the World, reached shelves. The timing was not coincidental. Elmina is a restaurant and an argument: that the beachfront cuisine of Ghana, its palm nut stews and fermented flavors and smoke-touched proteins, can hold its own in any company. Michelin noticed. So did the audiences who watched him cook on television for years and waited to see what he would build when left entirely to himself.
Elmina earns Michelin Newly Recommended for West African cooking that draws from Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria without flattening the distinctions — chef Enoh Ukpong built a menu around jollof rice made from scratch, suya-spiced proteins, and egusi preparations that her regulars drive across the city for.
